Подробности наблюдения
2 nestlings visible at the opening of nest #8. Strangely, both nestlings seemed to have their eyes shut most of the time. I observed one prey delivery from the male; he spent a lot of the time perched on a nearby ocotillo. The female was flying around about 200m northeast of the nest, calling constantly, and perhaps foraging. At one point she appeared to dive on a Gila Woodpecker that landed on a saguaro. There may have been a fledgling in that area but I couldn’t find it. A second female-plumaged martin was also in the vicinity. I Endoscoping showed just the two nestlings in the cavity interior, and I found no evidence of a third nestling, alive or dead, in the cavity. Nestling feather development looks like 23-25 days old. I was relieved to see them return to the opening within just a couple of minutes after I finished, unlike last week. Nest #9 had little activity. An adult female was in the area, and even landed on the nest saguaro for a moment. No nestling vocalizations heard. At one point I thought I heard some rustling sounds in the cavity but that’s it. Not sure what to make of it. Nestlings should be about 14-20 days old.
