Photos. 9:30am - 10:15 am. Observed numerous times in this period as it flew over reservoir at distances from 40-800 meters. Smallish Sterna tern with small, dark bill. Neck very short, not projecting much in front of wings. Forked tail with dark outer tail feathers. White sides, breast and belly. Undertail coverts white. White nape. Black cap down to eye, whitish forehead. Underwing mostly white with darker trailing edge on primaries. Rump white. Upper wings and mantle mottled gray with darker leading edge on wing out to primaries. Secondary edge whitish, separating this species from Common Tern. Seem well by all 12 people present. Numerous photos obtained. Less than 10 records for the state. Lifer for several people. Ron Martin familiar with this species from ND and Alaska.
