NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 16. Bulk reel: 49; Extra cut(s) on bulk reel: 50; Extra cut length: Weather: Cloudy, fair. a)* I have no idea if these calls belong to this species or even if they are of an owl. I have a hunch that perhaps they may be location calls by fledged young. There were adults in the area at several places, very actively singing and also giving other calls, the meaning of which is not clear. Playback of the calls brought no reaction except for a slight increase in the frequency with which given. Quality: 1-2. Level: +10. b) 6:20 PM. Natural song (type A) given by an adult in this general area but across road. Quality: 2. Level: +5. This bird (very likely) had been singing off and on since ~ 5:15 PM. Quality: 2. Level: +5. c) ~ 7:00 PM. Perhaps the same bird after I went inside woods and played the field tape. The first songs given were type B: (after the first few songs recorded I have cut out ~ 1 1/2" of the others and also in field didn't record all the bird song in latter part. Quality: 2. Level: +5. No parabola. Bird then changed to Type A song. This bird then collected (= male #6194).
