If you follow my Project Feederwatch numbers - beginning of winter, American Goldfinches and Evening Grosbeaks were the Irruptive species. They were pushed out and overrun but Pine Siskins end of December 2022- IThe numbers started low and built fast. (especially after snow storms) - I have photos of about 75-100 in 3 places where there is food and the food and birds are spread all over due to wind blowing both the birds and the food. These are consistent numbers. Right now 300 is a best number guess.. The 270 - I was able to actually count them alll - pretty closely - as they did not spook from squirrels, me or the sharp-shinned hawk who likes to visit...... - Betsy Bass (These photos do not show the full number. I have feeders and feed on ground - several places in my counting area - and in the middle photo below - they are waiting for me to come out -and serenade my feeding process before descending for breakfast! I also have photos of the "drinking" the snow on the softened in the sun - roof powder.
