Подробности наблюдения
Identification tentative. More photos needed. Studied off-and-on for more than an hour at maybe 50 m and under partial sun and clouds. Quite a bit smaller than nearby dowitcher. Forages actively wading through the water and in short rush/sedges and weed. Bobs tail occasionally. Fairly erect posture. Spends much time preening. Briefly seen flying: showed tail dark in the middle and white at the edges. At one point briefly seen flying towards observer showing underside of tail white with minor black markings. Small tringa-shaped or Pectoral shaped sandpiper, but seemed more erect. Initial ID was Spotted because of size and bobbing tail. But bobbing not as accentuated and active, lacks white crescent in front of folded wing, bill all dark, and dorsal pattern more variegated. A second initial ID was Sharp-tailed S including rusty brown cap, but breast pattern similar to a Pectoral S except that the pale brownish throat and breast cut off from white belly was interrupted down the middle by a paler area. Strong white superciliary, no white eye-ring. Note dark lores. Legs yellowish. Wood Sandpiper the best possibility except for tail pattern.
