One melanic individual. I can't even be certain whether it is a 1st summer or second summer bird. I'm leaning towards 1st summer as I think the primaries should look quite black in a 2nd summer. A very unusual looking bird. Note the dark feathering about the face, the dark bill and legs and the grey underparts. I never saw it in flight nor open its wings. Be interesting to see what it looks like as an adult.
