Juvenile. Remarks: Nine week old young. Good News and Bad News. Good - the two eggs from nest no. 1 first seen on 17th August 2014 did hatch, and the chicks survived. When we expected the chicks around mid-September, there were none. Our first impression was that the chicks did not survive the heavy rain around that time but then we later learnt that the chicks, even a day old, can swim and move and hence should have survived. We had been looking for them in the general area but did not find them and, therefore, it was a pleasant surprise this morning to see the whole family at the exact spot of the nest. The chicks are now about nine weeks old. Bad - we had seen the two chicks from nest no. 4 move about and all the locals had been saying that the two move about and come back to the nest now and then. This morning, the locals told us that now only one chick is being seen and we have lost the other. We now have 6 surviving chicks from four nests seen at this wetland area. Two from No. 1 and 2 and one each from No. 3 & 4. - AA. Date added to OBI: November 20, 2014.
