Подробности наблюдения
**rare; excellent photos by Ryan and Jeremiah; adult (barred flanks). A very small goose, only 1/3 the body size of the largest geese and 2/3 or less of the height when standing. The neck was especially short and had little kink when feeding. The head was squarish with a steep forehead and the bill tiny. The cheek patch was white (most Canadas present had pale grayish cheek patches) and a bit more extensive than the average Canada. Below the neck sock was a narrow band of rich cinnamon-brown, not something I have noticed on Richardson's, but maybe a function of being so close (30 ft) to this one. In the front there was a gleaming white half collar below the black neck sock, so that the cinnamon color was seen on the rear of the neck below the black and on the front of the neck below the white. The breast was otherwise buff-white. The upperparts had broad (2-4 mm?) edging of pure white, which stood out from all Canadas that had buff edging to the upperparts feathers. The tertials were not as silvery as on Richardson's, but did have a silvery sheen that was shared by none of the Canadas. Never heard to call. Could not be a more classic example of a Cackling Goose, unlike the bird here two years ago (which was apparently a runt Canada Goose). Structure and rusty area on breast sides suggests this could be B. c. minima
