Note tail does not contrast with rump and upper tail coverts
Подробности наблюдения
Encountered above and to west of concrete foundation at about -9.2128,-35.8728 (west of and before drop down to old foundation). This was shortly after 13:00 local time. Bret and I agree that this was the Philydor (not Cichlocolaptes later described and still an enigma). We noted and photos show this individual had a pale buff ring of feathers around the eye and orangish-rufous upper tail coverts and lower rump, i.e. no sharp contrast with tail (the Cichlocolaptes had a dark brown rump and upper tail coverts creating contrast with bright rufous rectrices). The bird perched and briefly foraged above us in mid-story. This was Bret's last sighting of this species here (26-27 January 2007). Voice recordings and video also by BMW.
