Foraging in open water; overall dark brownish-gray; no white on body or wings except a white spot on the back of the neck; triangular bill with orange; undersides lighter gray/brown with some mottling--saw when it flapped its wings. Twice an immature bald eagle attempted to prey on it--both times it dove beneath the surface and came out unscathed.
