Подробности наблюдения
A hummingbird had been continuing at this residence for a few days prior. I am not sure of the first day of detection. A Selasphorus hummingbird; smaller, substantial rufous coloring, structure. Size, structure, and coloration eliminate Calliope. Vocalization and extent of rufous throughout face eliminate Broad-tailed (more gray-faced). Tail feathers, especially R3-R5 are broad and rounded, supporting Rufous. The spread tail flight shot seems to show a bend/dent in R2, strongly suggesting Rufous. In general, chunky/thick-necked. Green R1s confirm this bird as a female and the patch of orange-red gorget feathers eliminate a hatch-year female. The bird was very cooperative, in view almost the entire time we were present. It would perch for extended periods of time in a holly bush before approaching the feeder. It would often stage in a bare branch before visiting the feeder or nearby sage. Subsequent visits have been made by others where the brid was refound.
