Подробности наблюдения
I went out this morning with the sole intention of better documenting the pair of Pacific Loons that have graced the afterbay for the past couple weeks. As I rounded the north peninsula and entered the west section, I could hear loud wailing calls echoing across the water. This turned out to be the pair of Common Loons interacting with one of the Pacifics. The three chased each other around in circles, wailing and squawking all the while. As I slowly moved my kayak closer, the pair of Commons drifted away back towards the causeway, but the Pacific stayed put. I continued to slowly close the gap, and eventually got to within about 5 feet. This bird proceeded to circle my kayak for nearly 20 minutes, never straying more than about 25 feet away. I was able to watch it swim right underneath my kayak multiple times, and was greeted every minute or so by a soft grunting call (similar to a coot or a female mallard). Definitely an experience I won't soon forget.
