Medium-small juvenile shorebird, Lesser Yellowlegs size but shorter-legged, stockier, and longer and thicker-billed. Greenish-yellow legs. Rusty grey-brown above, light grey-brown below. Rusty-brown cap. Prominent white line above eye, dark line through eye. White stripe up back and whitish secondaries visible in flight. Tertials very plain, narrowly bordered by rusty-brown. Flight call - a sharp "keek". Feeding pattern - vertical probing while wading. Was catching and eating leeches. Photographed.
