Подробности наблюдения
Smaller black and white storm-petrel, extensive bold white rump wrapping a little under the sides, the white rump about same length as remaining dark tail. Tail shallowly forked, not so long as nominate leucorhoa or form chapmani Leach's Storm-Petrel making the bird short ended looking a bit in the rear. Plumage looked fresh, dark colored, gleaming white rump, could not detect any signs of molt. Shorter legs, not visible extending beyond tail. Distinctive behavior observed as the bird was feeding, flying across water surface suddenly towered vertically in air about 10 feet or more, flipped around at top when stalled, and dropped like a shuttlecock to the water surface to settle or patter on feet while investigating food item. It repeated this feeding behavior flight pattern over and over again. Also seen flying in the distinctive wide circles with tail end a bit drooped down as this species seems to like to do.
