Подробности наблюдения
While surveying for breeding snowy plovers, I first heard a high-pitched vocalization high above me, one that I hadn't heard before and immediately thought it sounded like a weird shorebird. Minutes later, I came upon a whimbrel-looking bird, by itself, in the dunes, amongst native beach pea and Tidestrom's lupine. I immediately noticed the steep curve at the end of its bill and realized I might have a bristle-thighed curlew. I compared the call I heard earlier to the call on the Sibley's app and they perfectly matched. Soon after, the bird took flight and I got to see the buffy tail feathers and it called several more times, in the same high pitched single notes as earlier.
