Подробности наблюдения
Somewhat distant bird relocated and observed with scopes while immediately adjacent to a horned grebe by Bev Agler, Patty Rose, Mark Schwan, and myself. It appeared slightly smaller than the horned grebe, and completely lacked the horned grebe's striking horizonal pattern of black crown with white face. Its face appeared quite darkly smudged, with the only conspicous light pattern being on the throat. When scanning with scope, the bird was fairly easy to discriminate from the horned grebes in the area. Since the grebe was constantly diving, the wet slicked-back profile of the head and neck in the photos was often very different from that normally portrayed. There is a photo of a similar type of profile in this checklist from Ohio: https://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S26899595
