Turkey Vultures waiting for Sealion afterbirth at Cape Dolphin, East Falkland. The Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura) is the most widely distributed species of New World Vultures, ranging across North, Central and South America to the Falkland Islands. In the Falklands, scavenging Turkey Vultures are often seen around sheep flocks and seabird rookeries, and in this case a large breeding colony of Southern Sealions (Otaria flavescens) at Cape Dolphin. This female Southern Sealion had just given birth, and three Turkey Vultures were waiting nearby to eat the afterbirth on the rocks nearby. Elevation: 7 m. Date added to IBC: February 11, 2019.
