A Buff-banded Rail hunting in grass. The Buff-banded Rail (Hypotaenidia or Gallirallus philippensis) is a medium-sized rail with a distinctive grey eyebrow, chestnut eye stripe and chestnut breast stripe. Normally shy, Buff-banded Rails become confiding when living close to people. They are omnivorous, taking a wide variety of invertebrates, seeds, fruit, carrion and rubbish. This bird was hunting amongst grass on the southern edge of Herdsman Lake in Perth, Western Australia. Elevation: 7 m. Date added to IBC: November 3, 2018.
