Three Magpie Shrikes preening and calling. The Magpie Shrike (Urolestes melanoleucas) is a striking shrike with a long tail and distinctive black and white plumage. Magpie Shrikes are a locally common resident in Kruger Park, preferring open Acacia-dominated woodland. They are usually found in groups of 3-12 birds and often perch together making their beautiful calls and rocking their long tails back and forth. Elevation: 287 m. Date added to IBC: May 29, 2018.
