Примечания
Female bushtit in adult plumage repeatedly hopped from a nearby Camellia shrub to the exterior window ledge and pecked at.....the window, presumably at her reflection. She repeated this behavior for hours until I covered the window. The nearest flock members were over 200 feet away. Findings indicate a general excess of females in northern California. Also, first year birds breed infrequently. Perhaps she was either a first year bird and/or had no mate. A female bushtit repeatedly pecked at the window for hours - was she pecking at her reflection? Biologists call this 'shadow-boxing.' Ultimately, I covered the exterior of the window. She remained in the vicinity, perhaps hoping to vanquish the intruder! After 3 days, she was no longer by the window, but hopefully back with her flock. Elevation: 76 m. Date added to IBC: June 23, 2016.
