Подробности наблюдения
Flock feeding in firs near the 3-mile marker (0.5 miles below Icehouse Saddle, elevation about 7000 ft). Both males and females present. Large, chunky finch with short, notched tail; large, pale conical bill. Males mustard yellow, wings black with large white patch; face dark gray with prominent yellow eyebrow. Females uniformly grayish with darker gray hood, same black-and-white wing pattern as males. Groups of 5-10 would periodically fly from one tree to another, calling "teew" (similar to a Western Bluebird call note but higher pitched and less mellow). The spectrogram of the posted recording is consistent with a type 1 call. We counted 14 in one tree and another 9 had flown down the canyon a few minutes earlier, but there may have been more than that. Difficult to photograph, as they mostly stayed in the shade in the tops of firs. Birds were seen at about 10 a.m. We came back through the same area at about 3:30 p.m. and did not see or hear them, but a Merlin was harassing birds in the area where the grosbeaks had been.
