Подробности наблюдения
Steve Garrett and I observed this bird feeding actively with the big scaup flock between here and Colonel Sam. Watched for at least half an hour, although with frequent dives and swells it could be difficult to spot. Presumably the continuing bird along this area of waterfront, although I don't think its been reported from this location before. First noted as contrasting white flanks and entirely black body, including back, unlike the grayer scaup. Head shape rounder, more like scaup and less like a pointy ring-necked duck; additionally flanks an even white, not grey-tinged, and no whiter "spur" to the front. Bill had a slight white subterminal ring but not as bold as that of ring-necked, and did not appear to encircle the bill. Slight, bedraggled tuft was eventually visible as well.
