Примечания

Subtitle: Melampsalta cingulata. I spent the night on this island taping Sooty Shearwaters. With daylight, and the sun, these insects became so noisy as to preclude any bird tping. Male cicadas were perched about in all vegitation. The tape is in two parts: first a general recording of the sound of the cicadas in the forest; then the parabola was turned an inch or two which focused it finely on a single insect whose individual detail was well taped. The purpose of this cut is to expand the geographical recordings of cingulata for comparison with Nelson and Lake Paringa, Westland areas. Cingulata has quite a range of "vocalizations", if that be a correct term, even in one location. I have yet to play back the tapes of one area to those of another to ascertain behavior of females. Other Behaviors: Reproduction. Equipment Notes: 2-transister, grounded emitter, battery operated pre-amplifer. 1.5 kc hi-pass filter.
