Juvenile, associating with Westerns but aggressively sparring with any that came close. Short ish stubbier bill, slightly darker cap and auricular contrasting with brighter supercilium. Upper scapula feathers had brownish edging, not bright rufous, and lower scapula feathers black centered with gray edging. Black legs. Stood out at a distance (we all spotted it almost simultaneously) and we were able to approach more closely for photos.
