Подробности наблюдения
Continuing off Jefferson, near the corner of Lincoln, in the vicinity of a blue dumpster, with 5-7 other observers. Initially the bird was standing partially obscured by a clump of sedges. After being displaced by a mallard, it moved into the open and began frequent diving. It had a less buoyant profile compared to a mallard on the water. Its position was easily tracked under the surface algae by the appearance of a rigorous boiling movement of the water. A coot and pied-billed grebe harassed it briefly. Medium size, black bill, dark eye with no eye-ring. Proportionally large buffy head, but crown was slightly darker with a crisp brown line extending from the nape and down the length of its narrow neck (compared to its head). Front of the neck was a dirty white--not distinct. Buffy front; mantle was tiger-striped dark brown and buffy, sides were buffy with white streaks, white over/under-tail coverts with short black tail. Primaries blackish-brown. Feet dark gray.
