NOTES: various calls from cattail marsh and in open water [This recording begins with flat "Chip" Calls that may have been given by this species (0:05-0:40), but they do not have the trumpet-like quality typical of the calls of this species, and instead sound almost like a call of Fulica americana [??] The second part contains two examples of what appears to be an atypical variant of the "Gull-like" cry of Porphyrula (0:42-0:46). The third and fourth parts contain a variant of the "Cackle" (0:49-0:58, 1:05-1:14), in the latter case followed by two "Chip" Calls of this species (1:15, 1:17), then a different "Cackle-like" Call (1:18-1:22), and finally, another Cackle like the one that began this part (1:27-1:34). I suspect the calls in the fifth part are "Squawks" of Gallinula chloropus (1:38-1:41). Finally, the sixth part has yet anohter Cackle like those in the third and fourth parts (1:45-1:50). Quality changed from "V.good" to 2-1, 2-3 (generally good, but first part a bit busy and fifth party is not very good - but neither of these may represent Porphyrula)- CAM - 25 February 2005]. Habitat: Wetland, Pond.
