NOTES: Unusual. Eastern phoebe male calls and flight song. Long cut. [This relatively long recording contains several different vocalizations. The seven vocalizations that begin the recording (0:065-2:17) are the Locomotory Hesitance Vocalizations (LHVs) of Smith (1969. Displays of Sayornis phoebe (Aves, Tyrannidae). Behaviour 33:283-322; Figure 1a). The middle part of the recording (2:48-5:34) contains 94 Simple Vocalizations from the closer bird and others from a second bird in the background (Figure 2b), what presumably represents a Doubled Vocalization (4:145; Figures 2e and f), another LHV (5:06), and a single Bipeaked Vocalization (5:28; Figure 4). Near the end is a series combining Bipeaked Vocalizations and type 2 Regularly Repeated Vocalizations (RRV2s) before ending with a typical RRV2, all said to be given during a flight display (5:34-5:40). Following this display, the recording concludes with song consisting of mostly RRV2s but also five RRV1s (5:44-6:48; RRV1s at 5:445, 5:475, 6:10, 6:13, and 6:34), and then a Simple Vocalization (6:50) and two LHVs (6:56, 7:01) just before the bird flew into the house. Quality changed from ~1- to 1-2 - CAM - 13 April 2005]. Response to playback: No response. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Forest, Deciduous Forest.
