Female type, stiff upright tail at rest, white under tail coverts, brown back, lighter sides and body. Dark brown cap and dark face stripe extending through the light face from the lower mandible. Chunky sloping bill. Smaller than scaup and slightly larger than Bufflehead. Will attach poor digiscope photos. Locally rare.
