Photo. Sitting amongst mixed tern and gull flock. Smaller than Royal Tern, more similar in size to Sandwich Terns. Thinner bill than Royal Terns and more extensive shaggy crest extending onto nape. Flushed by beach visitors several times and returned to beach in essentially the same spot but around 13:00 flushed and could then not immediately relocate.
