Detalhes da observação
I found a small white goose sleeping among a flock sleeping Canada Geese on the ice of Horseshoe Pond. I thought at first Snow Goose until it lifted its head up for a second or two and I could see that it was a Ross's Goose. Its head was rounded and unstained. The bill was short and triangular and was pink with the basal half a dusky gray. The nail was ale orange or dull yellow being the brightest part of the bill. It lacked the black along the cutting edge of the bill which is prominent on Snow Goose. The bird was entirely white except the primaries which were black. The legs were a dull pink. The bird was seen at one point next to a Mallard and wasn't much bigger. It flew two times circling the pond once then landing and resting again, but after it flew the second time it was seen flying west over Misery Bay. Other people I alerted to see the goose was Sam Stull, Karen Gutowski, Brian Berchtold, and Don McClelland. I took several photos. See attached images.
