Found on private property, in an area of dense large willows between the road and the Hoback river. No public access, and likely too far from the road to see or hear from the public right-of-way. Heard first, repeatedly making sharp ascending ‘rrreea’ calls; recordings taken. Never heard singing, but called often during several minutes of observation. After hearing it, found the bird perched in the willows, and it stayed in the same area, sometimes briefly going out of view, but often perched up and calling in the open. A relatively large Empidonax flycatcher with distinct eye ring, grayish brown upperparts with green-tinged back, and always appeared flat-headed. Visual field marks overlap with WIFL, but all seemed good for what would be expected for ALFL. Recording of call should be diagnostic.
