Detalhes da observação
A bird found by Pederson and Baumann the day before. Slighter smaller in body size than a Western Grebe with a shorter neck. Bill approximately the same length but appeared to be thick throughout tapering to a rounded point just at the tip, while the WEGR bill seemed to taper from the head all the way to the tip and therefore seemed more pointed. The Red-necked bill was primarily yellow especially on the lower mandiible, being more gray above, especially on the culmen. Body was darkish gray above with a difficult to discern line between the somewhat lighter white sides. Line between the two didn't contrast and was difficult to find. Neck appeared slightly rufous at times in good light. there was a strongly white cheek patch. The rear of the head was somewhat squared off. There was a dark crown going down to the eye and back to just before the rear crown where it angled back and up to end near the rear crown.
