Detalhes da observação
Interesting duck that from a distance looked like a CITE. Was it a young Mallard? Nope. Overall it was quite plain in color, more of a rich brown to grayish brown depending on light angle. The bill was darkish with greenish tones with a dark line down the basal portion of the culmen. The shape was not as spatulate as a CITE, more parallel sided like a Mallard. The breast looked a bit darker like a male eclipse Mallard. No white in the tail and no curl. The tail was short and square in shape. Dull yellow-orange legs. Briefly opened its wing. Saw purple speculum at one point with a thin white bar above (see pics). Dave saw that the upper with coverts that appeared grayish-blue. Will add photos.
