Detalhes da observação
Likely two individuals involved, but it’s possible that the same bird was just moving around a lot. A few observations here: (38.4982926, -121.6930565), low in the cedars. Also followed a bird around through the archery lanes around here: (38.4970433, -121.6934860). All encounters were with a “whit”ing empid that was visually a pretty straightforward DUFL. Bill length intermediate between HAFL and GRFL, with a dirty lower mandible that had some orangish color to the base. Short, blunt primaries that gave this bird a long-tailed look. Rounded, dopey head with a bright eyering. Overall a very gray empid but it definitely seemed brighter than the one observed on campus earlier today. It flicked its wings and tail frequently but it never did the phoebe-like tails pumps that GRFL do. Photos and audio to be posted. What a crazy day for Dusky Flys in Yolo!
