Continuing. Incredible find by Sara Fuentes this morning! A life bird for both of us—it was one species we weren’t sure if we’d ever see! Pics (and potentially video) tba. We arrived about half an hour before sunset to find the bird in the same exact spot as reported originally, where it hadn’t moved (other than a brief preen) all day. Its perch was about 50 feet off the ground on a relatively thin branch, where the bird looked like an odd growth off of the branch. After sunset, it eventually started moving its head and wings, doing a few warm up wing flicks, and then it flew a short distance to another branch at about 8:15pm (sunset was at 7:59pm). It flew again only a short distance to a very exposed but thick bare branch. It then proceeded to engage in flycatching behavior for a while (if possible, I’ll upload video) returning to the same branch each time. After some time, it moved to another clump of branches also just a short distance away, where it continued flycatching. It did not sing, but did give a series of call notes. (I attempted a recording, but the calls may be drowned out by background noise.) We observed about 20 minutes of flycatching and the bird was still present when we left.
