Detalhes da observação
(Rare): 🍅 “unreported”: bin photos of cont. rarity first reported earlier today on 6:40am checklist by homeowner. Thank you so much for letting us see this bird in your lovely blossoming yard! New York state bird for me. Adult male BLGR seen well. Eating at tube feeder with black oil sunflower seed in it, sitting on the tray attached to bottom of tube. Both times when saw BLGR it was just sitting on this feeder eating. Gorgeous indigo, dark blue bird with rusty/earth-red in the wing contrasting with black in wing too. Bill is gray, with more black around the eye. Such a beautiful blue. This is the 3rd Tompkins co. record per ebird, the others prev. in 2012 and 2013; Kevin said a student of his also described one at ~ Myers Point long ago. — — When I arrived, 4 birders already here waved and pointed that it was on the feeder already; they said it had just come back out to the feeder when I arrived, that it had earlier been out but then hid in the white cedars (arborvitae) just to south of pale yellow house. Seen with Michael and Neil both from Rochester area. 2:42p BLGR flies away from feeder into white cedar. Seen sitting midway up in cedar for a couple minutes but then lost. — — 3:00p BLGR back to tube feeder. Seen with Kevin M. 3:08p BLGR flies into brambly small dense tree / vine tree, disappears, lost for over an hour. I never saw it again; decided to leave after over an hour of waiting. [Appears the BLGR next came to feeder again finally 4:40pm.] — — note: feeders are apparently in front of a bedroom window, so homeowners ask that people only look here from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. We stood watching for the BLGR under the blooming ~ Norway maple tree, at checklist pin. Fragrant viburnum by their porch. Serviceberry in lawn by another (empty) feeder, and is that an eastern redbud budding out ruby-violet next to the fragrant viburnum? Gorgeous if so! — Windy slightly chilly and slightly warm out. 66F cloudy. Severe Weather statement for Fire Weather today: “Dry conditions with gusty winds are expected across the region today. Minimum relative humidity values will drop as low as 20 percent in some areas with south to southwest wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph during the afternoon. Although this Spring has been wet, fine fuels such as dead grass and leaf litter will quickly dry out in these conditions. If any fires were to start, the windy and dry weather will increase the risk of wildfire spread, making it difficult to contain.” — — Unfortunately Caleb is working and misses this BLGR today … thanks so much sweetie for being happy for me seeing it though without you! Caleb was in class and missed my Oregon state BLGR too, May 11, 2022 at Malheur NWR, (where just last week 04/17/24 Malheur had an INBU which Caleb and I never got for Oregon).
