Detalhes da observação
Continuing at this known location. Small heron with dark crown and back, and creamy light brown and white throat and breast. Another birder I met and I had a consensus that there were at least two. I first heard one calling along the west side of the west pond. Then I saw one flying across the west pond and dropping into the reeds right in front of me at the south side of the pond, while the other one was still calling on the west side. Then they called together for a while. I moved between the west and south sides a few times and saw the south-side one flying in and out the reeds three times. I also enjoyed watching the west-side one moving inconspicuously deep in the reeds while calling constantly, even though I only caught a few brief glimpses of it in about half an hour. It’s interesting that the two individuals showed very different behaviors - one flew around a lot but called less frequently, while the other one was more secretive but called more frequently.
