Detalhes da observação
Seen silently flying over the COOP. Nighthawk with shorter P10 than P9 giving the wings a more rounded appearance. Lack of evident primary molt at this time of year should also be indicative of Lesser vs Common (that latter of which ought to still be molting at this time of year I believe). White slashes on the underside of either wing nearer the tips of the wing than Common. Location of white patch and wing shape lending a shorter-winged appearance and "battier" flight than Common. The more regular winter Nighthawk on the UTC, at least given the precedent of records, certainly more regular in High Island over the past few decades in winter than Common. After encountering late fall/winter nighthawks I believed to be Lesser the past two years, I was very excited to get substantiating photos of this bird. Possibly the same individual reported by Rachel Myers about a week ago but not relocated since.
