Detalhes da observação
Continuing large numbers. My estimate is about 2.5% of the total scoters (1 per every 40). It felt like they were a larger presence than perhaps they were, since they preferred to segregate themselves away from the SUSC/BLSC, and often tended to be closer to shore than the bulk of the large rafts. Whenever huge skiens of thousands would take off, I typically wouldn't see any WWSC mixed in. I also witnessed some pretty odd behavior - a group of 10 males and 1 female, where the males appeared to be trying to court the female. They were pretty rambunctious, going after each other especially, but also appearing to try to mount the female a few times. This went on for at least 10 minutes, including twice after the flew to a new spot. At one point though 6 females swam over, but didn't attract any attention. It feels really "early" for the males to already be in courtship mode, but I can't think of what else they could have been doing - they weren't diving for food. Have several videos/photos of the behavior.
