Detalhes da observação
Call is a harsh “squeet-squeet”. Sometimes being given in rapid succession, sometimes only 1-2 calls at a time. To me, the quality of the call is most comparable to a Robin. Our audio is good enough to ID, but for call reference the audio in this checklist is most comparable to our experience. https://ebird.org/checklist/S120696582 This location has long been proposed by Nathan Pieplow as potentially being another Pipit Hill type of spot, but there probably needs to be another couple of years of birding here to see if the SPPI are actually reliable. The habitat was actually really good at one spot and this is where we had all the birds. It wasn’t even marginal it was just straight up good habitat. The only problem was that we couldn’t actually get to the crest of the hill because it was private and there were lots of cows. Typically when I go to the pipit hill in Yuma I get birds flushing directly at my feet plus flyovers that could be random or birds that flushed really early. To our knowledge, none of the birds we had at Hugo were actually directly flushed by us, unless they were particularly skittish and flushed early. I think we got to the spot early enough where there was still a lot of movement happening, so the bird were just dispersing throughout the SWA without our influence and we were catching them as they called overhead.
