High-pitched, trilled begging call of the fledgling and lower-pitched trill of the adult.
Detalhes da observação
The nest cavity first reported on May 25, 2023 was observed with a small industrial endoscope and found to be empty. Two fledglings were seen in nearby trees. One was a less able flyer than the other and probably the last to leave the nest. This fledgling was recorded on video. Both were being fed by two adults. The less mobile fledgling was in a spruce tree 10-15 meters from the nest, about 10 m above the ground. Initially at the trunk of the tree, it was being fed when spotted (prey item unidentified). It later moved further out on the branch where it was fed a dragonfly (see video), before flying off. Almost an hour went by from the time it was spotted until it flew away. At least two nestlings, from the first reported Northern Pygmy Owl nest in Saskatchewan, have now successfully fledged.
