Detalhes da observação
Small tern with forked tail. Wings extend beyond tail when sitting. Tom photographed. Chuck inInitially I (Tom) disregarded this bird as detritus, as it was just over the hump of a sand bar, until chuck saw it move. We realized it was a tern do to the back cap. It finally took flight and we were able to rule out Caspian do to size and forked tail. The wings, upper primaries did not seem bright enough for Forsters. When it perched only a little closer it seemed too long legged for an Arctic and folded wings extended beyond the tail and the bill size fit well for a Common tern....we were shocked, or I was, for such and early date. I took many photo that were extremely poor as the over cast sky and early time of day made for very poor light conditions.
