BCNH Seis. Probably entering its third year. Note light cap, residual very light streaking on underparts, and yellow areas of bill.
Detalhes da observação
This is a well-known colony of BCNHs that make their home in the employee parking area of the Coos Bay U.S. Post Office. The area is ungated and unposted, and a postal employee who drove by while we were there just smiled and waved. There were definitely seven distinct individuals during the time we were there. Six appear to be in fully adult plumage, although two appear markedly smaller. One individual ("BCNH Tres") appears to be in classic immature plumage. Most of the birds had their heads tucked in sleep, but of the birds that did have their heads in the open, each seemed to display at least some yellow in the bill that is typically considered diagnostic of immature birds. Perhaps these are intermediate birds entering their third (fully adult) year? See attached photos of each individual.
