Detalhes da observação
Bird was reported to the Tennesseee Bird Watchers Facebook page by Casey Hardin. Photos posted were taken by a friend of hers in Nunnelly (Nicholas Drinkwater) who said the bird kepy flying into his barn and even allowed him to pick it up. It apparently then ran off into the dark and was not seen again. Large, drab Rallus species with gray cheeks and indistinct stiping on the flanks. A King Rail should show a more rufous/rusty color overall. This bird, although it showed up before the remnants of Hurricane Ida, could possibly still be storm related. This bird could have been forced north away from the coastal marshes by high tides from rising waters due to storm surge ahead of Hurricane Ida. This would also explain the confused, disoriented state of the bird that was likely exhausted from having flown several hundred miles. All photos by Nicholas Drinkwater. There are only two other published records for this coastal species in Tennessee.
