NOTES: ALARM (DECRESCENDO ?) OF FEMALE. DING ISLAND - IN IMPOUNDED RIVER. FEMALE(S) [This recording begins with a decapitated example of the "decrescendo call" (0:05-0:07; following a "cryptic" stop-start and the recorder gaining speed), this followed by a series of "quacks" by a female (0:10-0:13), and finally, several "Burp Calls" by a male, the latter best described (and shown in Fig. I on page 491) by Cramp et al. (1977. Handbook of the birds of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa: the birds of the Western Palearctic. Vol. 1. Oxford University Press, Oxford). It appears that most of these calls were given by birds in flight (associated with the whistling of the wings), though I suppose it is possible that the calling birds and the flying birds were not the same individuals [??] Quality changed from 2-3 to 2-3, 2 (the decrescendo call is decapitated and the level is low for the quacks, but the burp calls are relatively good) - CAM - 21 March 2005]. Other Behaviors: Emit Alarm. Habitat: River, Island.
