Large singing group of males after rain storm
Detalhes da observação
Large group gathered in the bushes/small trees along the edge of Little Eddy just after the rain subsided, appearing one by one from the hay field. The entire group erupted into a crazy, frenzied cascade of R2-D2 songs, paused for a few seconds, and started up again (one bird initiating the singing, and then the others joining in simultaneously. The group repeated this behavior often. They moved around the area, from the field edge to high in the trees along the road, to the top of a dead poplar across the ponds, and then looping back around again, making a racket all the while. When listening at close range the Bobolinks were nearly deafening! No females have arrived yet. Discovered something new today while watching these birds: Bobolinks undergo two complete molts per year, as I have known for a while, but also some amount of wear molt! See photos; Buffy tips to the black feathers of the underparts were still present on many, but wearing off.
