Presumed King Rail given location (freshwater pool) and nature of "kek" series (male advertising calls) which were given in a relatively slow, even, prolonged manner.
Detalhes da observação
Early and continuing by Gull Pond Tower, originally found and audio recorded on 3/18 by Bill Elrick; some presumption here in identification as I do not believe the bird has been seen or photographed yet but likely this species given apparent freshwater location and relatively slow and even delivery of “kek” calls for sustained periods (vs Clapper Rail) and likelihood (vs hybrid); relatively monotonous/sustained, fairly evenly delivered and slow paced “kek” series (male advertising calls) which, along with location (apparently freshwater), suggests King Rail over Clapper Rail; audio recorded. This bird appeared to be fairly wary and it’s vocalizing seemed to be clearly altered by my presence as well as others while I was nearby. Whenever I got close here to get audio recordings, which is all of my audio, the bird would become hesitant and give more broken and shorter “kek” series (the longest I audio recorded was roughly 30 seconds), when I would retreat, including while I was back at my car, the bird would give more prolonged “kek” series which it maintained to deliver at a relatively slow and even pace.
