Detalhes da observação
Continuing. My mission today was to get audio of this bird, and I just barely succeeded. The bird appeared after I had been searching for about 10 minutes, and almost immediately gave a "whit" call when a Black Phoebe pursued it. The "whit" call, indicating Dusky rather than Hammond's, is at 0:01 in this recording, followed closely by the "chip" call of the pursuing phoebe. I watched it for the next 45 minutes, but I only heard it call on one other occasion, when it gave 3 or 4 more "whit" calls, unprompted this time. I failed to get a recording of them, however. It spent most of its time flycatching in the weeds and along the fence between the trail and the east side of the pond. On one occasion, it flew toward the south end of the pond and disappeared from view for about 5 minutes, probably either in the bushes at the south end of the pond or in the low vegetation right by the water's edge. Unfortunately there were at least two outdoor cats hunting around the edges of the pond. Hopefully this bird can avoid them.
