Detalhes da observação
When Mum told me she'd seen a Grebe on the dam yesterday, of course I was going to head back out immediately after coming home from my walk... and what a delight it was!! At first, the dam looked discouragingly empty. And then, out of the reeds, a little blur of black and chestnut shot out with a sharp, metallic squeak!! THE GREBE AT LAST!!! It's been far too long since one of these underrated little characters has been on our land; much as they are now a pretty much yearly occurrence, I always await their return with bated breath!! One of my favourite moments of todays photoshoot was when a stiff breeze blew through, and the Grebe was helplessly blown out into the middle of the dam; it's that tiny of a creature!! This is also a very special bird, being only the second breeding plumage adult we've ever had up here, and the first in six years... welcome back!!!
