Detalhes da observação
While driving the back roads behind the Naval Arctic Research Lab, we saw what was immediately called out as "SONGBIRD!" because the area is a known location to draw vagrants. Although the initial assumption was a longspur when it flew across the road, we quickly noticed the thrush like behavior hopping along the ground. One look at the bird narrowed it to Turdus. Everyone instantly grabbed their cameras to get doc shots considering any thrush would be rare in the area. I was able to follow the bird through the tundra for a while getting as many photos as possible. The bird would tuck down into the grass and hop, only flying when it was in the exposed patches of ice. It didn't seem all to concerned about us as it would only fly a short ways and land back close to us. When we started shooting, we noticed the buffy breast to the bird, lack of eyebrow ruling out Dusky thrush and Redwing. The bird was heavily spotted on the breast as well. When the bird flew, we obtained photos showing a bright orange underwing, ruling out fieldfare and mistle thrush as well. Most precise pin: 71.3241, -156.6697
